Clairtone Mini Hi-Fi

I enjoy collecting things. It's a hobby. While the price is one thing to consider, I also consider the cost of ownership. Does it require maintenance? How much space does occupy? Is it delicate? That's why I was excited to get my hands on a Clairtone Mini Hi-Fi AM Radio as is was low on the scale of all the things to consider.
Clairtone was a Canadian manufacturer of sound electronics that had an international reputation for creating innovative consumer electronics. Founded in Toronto in 1958, and by 1966 had a manufacturing plant in Stellarton, Nova Scotia. After several years of financial trouble, the company closed in 1972.

Clairtone liked to clarify that this radio was not a toy but rather a major breakthrough in micro electronic miniaturization. Weighing in a 1 ounce, packaging claimed it to be the “The world’s smallest transistor radio” in 1968.
More from the packaging:
"The MINI HI-FI by Clairtone features advanced circuitry producing quality sound equivalent to a 12" speaker. The personal ear-speaker plugs into the side of the radio and automatically switches it on. To select station rotate dial on front of unit. Volume is controlled by rotating the radio. To switch off, unplug ear-speaker."

Next I will have to find a suitable ear-speaker to test if the Mini Hi-Fi still works.
